et al. altruistic studies
Art|39|Basel, 2 - 8 June 2008
Starkwhite is pleased to present a new et al. project,
altruistic studies, at Art Unlimited, from 2 to 8 June
2008, with the support of Creative New Zealand.
altruistic studies proceeds from the artists' process
of research and investigation utilising techniques of procedure and
presentation familiar from other ideological systems - scientific,
military, political, and revolutionary. Using a range of fabricated
signage and speech in conjunction with Google Earth, the work uses
a sculptural installation aesthetic to interrogate
persuasive/coercive methods ranging from the political and
militaristic, through cults and fringe religious practices, to
education, the internet and peer processes, institutional and
otherwise (social solidarity).
